Family Attractions in Swan Valley

The Eden Reserve is just on the doorstep of historic food and wine region, Swan Valley. Blessed with nature and stunning landscape views that stretch for miles, the valley is home to numerous award-winning wineries, eateries and activities for all ages. Being just a 30 minute drive from Perth, it is a popular recreational spot for locals and tourists alike.

Here, we’ve shortlisted some of our favourite family attractions in the region:

Bells Rapids

Just a short 15 minute drive from The Eden Reserve, Bells Rapids is truely a local favourite and one for the nature lovers all year round. It features a walking bridge that spans across the Avon River best enjoyed in winter when the river is recharged with rain. When the waterways fill up, the Avon Descent occurs and the bridge becomes an excellent place to stand and witness the rushing white water rapids.

Cross the bridge and go on either the 2.5km River walk or the more challenging 3km Goat Walk. It is stunning during wildflower season in August to September. During this time of year, you may be lucky to bump into a Grey Kangaroo in the wild. Any other time of the year is scenic too. So don’t forget to bring that picnic mat and take the opportunity to have a meal out in nature!

Whiteman Park

Only 30 minutes drive away is a wonderful recreational reserve with activities for all ages. Whiteman Park sits on almost 4000 hectares of natural bushland and boasts of numerous activities that highlight the wildlife and rich heritage of the area. Engage in nature and get to know the local wildlife by walking nature trails and visiting the much beloved Caversham Wildlife Park (more on that below). Experience vintage train and heritage tram rides, and visit transport heritage-themed museums. You could even jump on a vintage bus for an all-age-friendly guided tour around the park. Leisurely explore the village shops and enjoy more recreational facilities available.

Caversham Wildlife Park

Get to know Australia’s unique wildlife including koalas, kangaroos, wallabies and more. You won’t just get to look at them from afar. Walk into a kangaroo enclosure where you get to meet (and feed!) Swan Valley’s most friendly ‘roos. Take a picture with koalas, or even hold them if you feel brave enough. There’s plenty more to see and do including cow milking, lamb feeding, meeting a real stockman on horseback and much more. It is recommended that you enter the park before 2pm to make the most of your time there.

Swan Valley Cuddly Farm

Oh, this one isn’t just for the kids. It’s a must-visit for all lovers of farm animals. Interact with Toffy the llama, Bella the red deer, Cracker Jack and Piper the miniature horses, and many more local, hand-reared cuddlies. Most farm pens and paddocks on the property can be entered to get up close with the friendly fur-residents. For a special treat, visit Cuddly Farm during feeding and milking times which are listed on their website.

The Feed Shed Cafe is a great spot within the farm for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. You’ll also find shady picnic areas with BBQ facilities, and accessible pathways for prams and wheelchairs. Included with the cost of entry are more fun activities like tractor-train rides, merry-go-round rides, an undercover bouncy castle, and bottle and bucket feeding!
